Everything You Need To Know About Wedding Invitation Wording

[MUSIC] [Applause]. Welcome back to the wedding course where I’m helping you plan your dream wedding with confidence. So in today’s video? I want to talk to you about invitations. If you aren’t there yet, don’t worry. I did a previous video on. Save the dates. Go back! Check that out on my Youtube page. Now if you are on invitations. I just want to give you a heads up to stay tuned to the end of the video as I’m going to have different examples on verbage and wording. Go across the screen to kind of give you layout ideas. But in the meantime, let’s get into the nitty-gritty of wedding invitations and what should go on them first know your wedding invitations should go out six to eight weeks prior to your wedding date, and that should give you plenty of time to collect your RSVPs and figure out your seating accounts. Now your invitations in terms of layout. The first thing is, you typically have a line that is an opening after that. You’ll have your names these days, too. If you’d like to start with your parents and having your parents inviting guests to be a part of their children’s wedding, which is where your name will go and you’ll see all this in the examples, that’s another option, something to keep in mind too, as you are putting your names on the invite. Do you want to include your full first middle and last name? First name, middle initial last name. If you have a Doctorate, would you like Doctor and Ms. Those are just things to kind of keep in mind based on how fancy if you’re doing a black-tie cocktail and all things to keep in mind as you’re putting together your invitation, so after you kind of have that information on the invite, you would say something like we invite you to join, or we welcome your presence or we will press the pleasure of your company. And then after that line, you would have the date and time. Typically we spell everything out again. This is up to you. I really believe that a wedding is about you and your choice and reflecting your personality, so think about if you’d like to spell things out completely or use numbers instead of spelling things out, it’s totally up to you, and then you’ll have the time and could say in the evening in the morning, but be sure to specify whether it’s evening or morning and then the location so with the location, put the full address on the invitation because sometimes. Google Maps doesn’t get things right, so it’s helpful to give the full address for everyone and you’ll want to say dinner and dancing or reception to follow if there is more happening after the ceremony because the invitation really just kind of outlines the ceremony and saying that there’s a reception to follow helps. People understand like, okay. They’ll be dinner. They’ll be dancing, there’s more to happen. Better be ready to party and really get a babysitter, and then you’ll want to mention something about RSVP and dress codes, so you might remember, but we did a whole video on dress codes. So if you’re not sure what you want to say, check out that video on our Youtube page for additional information and ideas. So that’s kind of the basic layout of your invitation. You can also have inserts so one thing that insert is perfect for is your wedding website or hotel information or any details based on etiquette. We never put registry information on the invitation so instead. Put your wedding website on an extra information card and guests know that they can find any registry information there, and then you’ll want to remember to include an. RSVP card with a self-addressed stamped envelope to make it easy for your guests to reply back. So a little tidbit that I want to share with you. Is that how to address your wedding invitations? I am constantly hearing from people. Can I bring a guest? Can I bring a plus-one well? This is kind of a good way to lay it out to dictate whether or not somebody is allowed to. So when you’re addressing the envelopes. If you have a couple, it’s pretty simple if they’re married. Mister and missus. Now, if you have a close friend and you really enjoy the company of their partner, their girlfriend or boyfriend, and you’d like to invite them as we’ll address that envelope to both of them so that they know they’re both invited. If you want to allow somebody to bring a guest and you don’t know who you’ll it’ll be bringing, and you don’t mind then address that to so-and-so and guests giving them that option. If you don’t want somebody to bring a guest just addressed the invitation to them and them alone and follow the same etiquette with families as well too, so try to be as specific as possible on that mailing envelope. Speaking of mailing envelopes. This is a great tip of when you’re putting together your postage and mailing your invites. So first step put together a complete invitation and then take that to the post office and have it weighed, especially if you have multiple pieces going into that invitation, you want to make sure that it’s not too heavy or that you’re putting the right amount of postage on the envelope because heaven forbid you get hundreds of invites coming back because you didn’t put on enough postage, so have them weigh it and then put your postage based on that, and then when it’s time to mail your invitations, if you do have something, that’s a little bit more delicate and sensitive. You’ll want to actually take it to the post office and ask them to hand stamp all of the envelopes and what that means is basically when envelopes are mailed, they go through a machine and they’re rolled through this thin machine and it leaves rubber marks and it’s not clean when its hand stamped the hand stamp each envelope, which preserves your invitation and keeps it as clean as possible. So that’s another little tip. I like to share with my couples. So if you have any questions comment below, I promise to get back to you. Stick around for a couple more seconds so that you can see those visual examples of different types of layout and wording for your invitations because I find it’s easier to see it all laid out in front of you.
